These pieces are inspired by the quiet, grounded presence of rocks. Their stillness, the histories they hold, the way they sit quietly in the landscape. Some look like they could have been found in the Ōrau (Cardrona River), others are smoothed, abstracted, or clearly touched by a human hand. Stacked to feel both balanced and slightly precarious.
The process of making them was slow and physical. Shaping, balancing, responding to weight and form. It is an intuitive, meditative kind of building. Attentive to the quiet shifts that happen when working with, rather than against, the material. It’s about noticing, adjusting, taking time.
Made for Elemental, this series is a kind of conversation with nature. It’s not about copying it exactly, but about working in rhythm with it.
